Contraload: doing things differently

How time flies… Sometimes I just can’t believe Contraload has already been around for almost 13 years. Since we were established, the number of our plastic pallets and bins has grown to the staggering amount of close to 1 million and we serve approximately 2700 clients in 26 different countries. These milestones make me think back to how it all started.

Before Sylvain (Naets, red.) and I started Contraload, we worked together at a large pooling company that rents and pools wooden pallets. We noticed that its customers in the food industry often asked for plastic pallets. However, delivering plastic pallets would be too much of a hassle for that pooling company compared to the size of the demand. We spotted a potentially huge market gap in this area.

That’s why one day we took the plunge and decided to start our own company in renting and pooling plastic pallets. We thought of an ingenious IT-system that would help us track and trace assets and provide the best service for our clients. Luckily we found an investor, since we didn’t have that kind of money ourselves. We came up with a name: Contraload, which refers to ‘containers’, ‘transport’ and ‘logistics’. But more important is the meaning of the 2 contracted words: ”contra”, because we try to do everything a bit different (and better) than others and “load”, because we help carry the loads through the supply chain. We have tried to work safer, more hygienically and highly cost effectively for our customers, as well as for the environment. It’s our way of contributing to a better world.

Taking that plunge 13 years ago is still one of the best decisions of our lives. And even though we’ve been around that long, we still learn new things every day. Things we think would interest you too. That is why we decided to start writing a blog every two weeks about all the ins and outs of our industry, like new products, regulation changes, trends in the shared economy, tips & tricks and stories from inside our company. By sharing this information, we want to help you to optimize your supply chain. We hope you will enjoy our posts!

All the best,

Jesse Sels
